Brandon Williams returns to professional football with Rotherham United
Rotherham United have announced the signing of right-back Brandon Williams on a short-term deal that runs until January 23, 2027, marking the player's return to professional football after being absent from competitive matches since August 2025.
Williams, 26, joined Rotherham's training last June but did not receive a contract at first. However, he managed to prove his physical readiness during the pre-season preparations, leading the club to give him another chance after assessing his condition by Director of Football Steve McClaren, manager Alex Bruce, and the coaching staff.
The player will wear the number 33 shirt with Rotherham, who compete in the English Championship. Williams previously graduated from the Manchester United academy and reached the first team, having participated with the team in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and Premier League. He has also had spells with Norwich City, Ipswich, and Hull City.
Alex Bruce, Rotherham's manager, stated in comments reported by TalkSport: "I am very happy with his joining Rotherham; he deserves this contract. He has worked very hard with us since pre-season and has shown a good mentality and a great desire to come in every day and work for nothing."
He added: "He has become in a much better condition than he was when he first arrived during pre-season. We hope he can now continue to develop and provide an addition to the club. We must not forget his career and what he has achieved, even though he is still a young player."
Williams has left Hull City after just six months on a one-year contract, having featured for limited minutes. His last appearance for a full 90 minutes dates back to November 2023, during his loan spell at Ipswich.
The English full-back is looking to revive his football career after being sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended, last year for dangerous driving. The player has publicly expressed his regret for what happened and now hopes to seize his new opportunity to regain his form and return to competition.
