Wayne Rony, the former captain of Manchester United, has accused Portuguese player Bruno Fernandes of selfishness and evading responsibility, stating that he is trying to place the blame on coach Michael Carrick for the team's decline instead of confronting his own mistakes and those of his teammates.

Rony's comments came, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mirror", following Fernandes' public criticism of the tactical approach adopted by Carrick and the coaching staff during the match against Como in the Champions League, after the Manchester United captain expressed his objection to the way they pressed the opponent and allowed them space to move.

Rony said during his appearance on "The United Stand": "You can say that Bruno was right or wrong in what he said, but you have to take responsibility on the pitch, and you have to take responsibility as a group of players."

The former Manchester United striker added: "These players are selfish; they do not care about their teammates, the coach, the technical staff, or the fans, but only about themselves. And if they do not get what they want, they act like children and start blaming others instead of taking responsibility."

Wayne Rooney's criticism was not limited to Bruno Fernandes; he also referred to Lisandro Martínez's statements following the loss to Atlético last week, warning that players publicly airing grievances could lead to a division in the dressing room.

Rony explained: "When Martínez spoke, I said this is a real nightmare because it will tear the dressing room apart, and that was the beginning. Now we have seen it happen again with Bruno, and we will see it with other players because they do not want to take responsibility."

Rony has directly criticized Manchester United's captain, saying: "He is putting pressure on someone else because he does not want to face the matter himself. If he looks at himself in the mirror, as well as Lisandro Martínez and the rest of the players, they will see themselves, and that is not good enough; they need to do more."

Bruno Fernandes has placed the responsibility for the pressing style on the coaching staff, explaining: "It is the coaching staff's decision not to press man-to-man, leaving spaces behind the defence and trying to regain the ball by waiting for the opponent, but when you give these teams space, they gain confidence."

The Manchester United captain added: "This is the responsibility of the coach and the technical staff to look into, not my responsibility."

Michael Carrick responded to his player's statements, confirming that the team tried to implement man-to-man pressing during the second half, but conceded a goal during that period. He emphasized that the success of any tactical system is linked to the players' ability to put in the effort and run in both directions, saying: "If you don't run forward and back, you won't be able to win."
