Chelsea and Manchester United compete to sign Sporting Lisbon talent
Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing to move during the January transfer window to sign Flávio Gonsalves, a 19-year-old winger from Sporting Lisbon, according to CaughtOffside.
The player is contracted to the Portuguese club until 2030, with a release clause of €60 million. Sporting Lisbon are looking to renew his contract and increase the release clause to around €100 million.
According to the report, Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing to make a bid between €45 million and €50 million, having closely monitored the player, despite Sporting Lisbon's insistence on keeping him and their desire to sell him in the future for a higher amount.
Gonçalves' future with his team remains uncertain as contract renewal talks have yet to make significant progress. This may lead him and his representatives to wait for moves from interested clubs before determining his future.
The player is also attracting interest from clubs in Spain and Italy, having caught the eye thanks to his speed, dribbling ability, movement in tight spaces, and contribution to goals.
