After Ronaldo era, Bernardo Silva new captain of Portugal
Portugal has turned a new page in its history, appointing Bernardo Silva as the national team captain following the retirement of legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who announced his international retirement after a long career in the jersey of the Brazil of Europe.
Jorge Jesus, the head coach of Portugal, confirmed that the selection of the new captain was based on established criteria, primarily the number of international appearances. He pointed out that Bernardo Silva is the player with the most international matches among the current squad following Ronaldo's departure.
Jesus stated: "In the national team, leaders are chosen based on the number of international appearances, and the same logic will apply. The player with the most international appearances after Cristiano Ronaldo is Bernardo Silva."
Bernardo Silva has significant experience wearing the Portugal shirt, having become one of the key figures of the current generation. He is now starting a new challenge leading the national team in the upcoming phase, alongside a leadership group that also includes prominent names such as Bruno, Rúben Dias, João Cancelo, and Rúben Neves.
