Michael Carrick's chances of remaining as Manchester United's manager have increased amid a divide within the club's management regarding his dismissal and a lack of agreement on a suitable replacement, despite the team's declining results.

The Independent reports that club officials have not made a final decision regarding Carrick's future, with increasing chances of him staying even after the international break, unless the team suffers a heavy defeat against Aston Villa.

The newspaper pointed out that there are doubts about the number of candidates to replace him, including Eddie Howe and Fabian Horzler, while Cesc Fàbregas does not seem ready to leave Como mid-season. Julian Nagelsmann's stock has also fallen, while questions remain about Antonio Conte's suitability for the team.

In a new development, Sebastian Hoeneß, the head coach of VfB Stuttgart, has entered Manchester United's considerations after the club's officials discussed the possibility of signing him, although the move represents a risk for the management.

These developments come ahead of Aston Villa, which represents an important test for Carrick, as Manchester United has dropped to 17th place in the Premier League, just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
