Sami Al-Jaber criticizes CAF: We have reached 2026 and still use old technologies

Sami Al-Jaber, the Saudi football legend, criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following Al-Ahli's loss to Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the Intercontinental Cup.

Al-Jaber expressed his reservations about the referee's decision to cancel a penalty awarded to Al-Ahli, stating that the offside incident involving striker Ivan Toney does not seem decisive based on the available footage.

Sami Al-Jaber stated in television remarks: "I have serious doubts about the referee's decision to cancel the penalty for Al-Ahli. I don't expect there to be an offside on Toney based on the image in front of us."

Saudi football legend added, questioning: "So the president of the African Football Confederation is the president of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and until now we do not know who won the Africa Cup of Nations, is it Senegal or Morocco?".

Al-Jaber continued: "Sometimes we hear this and sometimes we hear that; I am speaking generally.. We have reached 2026 and we are still using old technologies to detect offside."

Sami Al-Jaber clarified his position, stating: "We saw the automatic offside technology in the FIFA World Cup and in most leagues. I have reservations about this ball, and continental tournaments need modern technologies."

Al-Ahli lost to Mamelodi Sundowns FC 2-1, as the South African team claimed the Confederations Cup title and secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Intercontinental Cup.

Mamelodi Sundowns FC await the winner of the match between the CONCACAF champion, Toluca, and the Copa Libertadores champion, which had not been determined at that time.
