End of the Road: Hugo Broos Parts Ways with South Africa National Team
The South African Football Association has concluded Hugo Broos' journey as the national team coach, announcing that his contract will not be renewed after nearly five years that saw the team return to competitiveness on both the continental and international stages.
Hugo Broos, 74, took charge of the South African national team in 2021 and successfully brought the team back to prominence after a period of decline, guiding them to a third-place finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, their best achievement in the tournament in recent years.
The Belgian coach led the South African national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, achieving a historic milestone by reaching the knockout stage for the first time in the team's World Cup history. However, they exited the competition in the Round of 32 after losing to Canada.
