Laporta Takes Charge of Alvarez Transfer Talks
Barcelona remains committed to signing Julian Alvarez, despite delaying official moves until after the 2026 World Cup, as part of the club's strategy to finalize the deal during the summer transfer window.
According to Spanish newspaper "Sport", the player has expressed his desire to move to Barcelona, while club president Joan Laporta confirmed that the offer remains on the table, with ongoing discussions taking place away from the spotlight.
The report added that Laporta has taken charge of the negotiations himself, following Barcelona's dissatisfaction with how Mateo Alemany handled the initial offer, and has opened a direct line of communication with Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.
It was noted that the delay in negotiations gives Atletico Madrid the opportunity to search for a suitable replacement before making a decision on the future of their Argentine striker.
The same source confirmed that Barcelona plans to submit an offer of €130 million after the World Cup, indicating that the club does not intend to raise its bid to €150 million.
The Spanish newspaper emphasized that Barcelona is not concerned about Real Madrid's reported interest in the player and is confident in Julian Alvarez's desire to join Hans Flick's project if he leaves Atletico Madrid this summer.
