Barcelona to Face Al Ahly in Joan Gamper Trophy
Barcelona has confirmed Al Ahly as their opponent for the Joan Gamper Trophy, following an agreement to play the match on August 19 at Spotify Camp Nou, marking the Catalan team's first appearance at home before the new season begins.
According to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the choice of Al Ahly comes after the agreement between the two clubs, allowing Barcelona to face one of the largest clubs in Africa, which enjoys massive popularity in Egypt.
The report also noted that the match will have a special significance, as Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim is part of Barcelona's youth setup after joining the club during the last winter transfer window.
Furthermore, the match against Al Ahly represents a strategic step for Barcelona, as they aim to strengthen their presence in the Egyptian market, which has a population of around 110 million, alongside their growing interest in the Arab market, where they have a large fan base.
The Joan Gamper Trophy events will not be limited to the men's team, as "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Barcelona's women's team will face Brighton on August 21 at Johan Cruyff Stadium as part of their preparations for the new season.
