Barcelona Begins Installation of New Turf at Spotify Camp Nou
Barcelona continues to implement the development phases of Spotify Camp Nou, having started the installation of the new pitch as part of the ongoing stadium renovation project, ahead of the team's preparations for the new season.
According to Spanish newspaper "Sport," the work is not limited to laying the grass, but includes a complete restructuring of the ground layers that will support the pitch, using specialized equipment to prepare and sort the materials designated for the playing surface.
The newspaper added that preparing the sub-base is a crucial phase of the project, designed to ensure the pitch's stability throughout the season, along with providing an advanced drainage system that maintains the quality of the grass in various weather conditions, whether during rain or cold temperatures.
The report noted that the new Spotify Camp Nou pitch will rely on an advanced hybrid system that combines natural grass with millions of synthetic fibers embedded within the playing surface, enhancing the durability of the surface and its ability to withstand the intensity of matches and training.
The newspaper confirmed that this system also aims to provide the best possible conditions for football, by maintaining ball speed, consistent bounce, and pitch firmness, aligning with the playing style that Barcelona relies on.
As work progresses throughout July, Barcelona is accelerating the implementation of one of the most important phases of the Espai Barcelona project, aiming to prepare Spotify Camp Nou with an ideal playing surface ahead of the start of the 2026/2027 season.
