Real Madrid has returned to the transfer market to reinforce the same positions they spent heavily on just a year ago, reflecting the club's review of the results of their previous sporting plan, having completed a new set of signings to cover the same areas.

According to 'Sport', the royal club has finalized the signing of Denzel Dumfries for €20 million, adding to the acquisition of Marc Cucurella for €55 million, along with signing bonuses for both Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté.

This comes after the summer of 2025, when Real Madrid invested nearly €170 million to sign Álvaro Carerras, Dean Housen, Alexander Arnold, and Franco Mastantuno to strengthen the left-back, center-back, and right-back positions, as well as a player capable of playing in the right-wing or playmaker role.

Despite the high hopes surrounding those signings, the four players failed to establish themselves in the starting lineup, and all missed out on participating in the World Cup, prompting the club to reinforce the same positions during a new transfer window.

The report indicated that Álvaro Carerras lost his starting spot by the end of the season, falling behind Ferland Mendy and Fran García, while Franco Mastantuno struggled to secure a permanent place in the team's options, leading the club's management to consider a loan move, with José Mourinho set to make the final decision regarding his future.

The newspaper also noted that Dean Housen, despite a strong start, saw his form decline at a crucial stage of the season, ending up outside the World Cup squad, while Real Madrid signed Ibrahima Konaté to compete for the same position, with ongoing discussions about acquiring another defender after finalizing the departures.

Alexander Arnold's situation was not much different, as he did not deliver the expected level in his first season, prompting the club to sign Denzel Dumfries to increase competition at right-back following Dani Carvajal's departure.

The report confirmed that Real Madrid has spent around €245 million over two consecutive transfer windows to strengthen the same four positions, noting that Bernardo Silva's versatility to play in multiple positions sets him apart from Franco Mastantuno, indicating that this spending reflects the club's desire to quickly rectify the mistakes of their sporting planning after last season's signings fell short of expectations.
