Real Madrid Plans for Courtois' Replacement
Real Madrid has begun planning for life after Thibaut Courtois, despite the Belgian goalkeeper still leading the team's defense. The club's management aims to find a suitable replacement for the future without rushing any decisions at this time.
According to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," Courtois, who is 34 years old, has renewed his contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2027 and wishes to continue his journey with the club beyond that. However, the management has already started monitoring several goalkeepers in preparation for the day he decides to end his career with the team.
The report added that Real Madrid does not consider Ukrainian Andriy Lunin, 27, as the preferred option to succeed Courtois, prompting the club to keep an eye on several names in the transfer market, including Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Brighton, who is gaining increasing interest within the club.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid continues to monitor goalkeepers from the club's academy, particularly Fran González, despite some doubts about his readiness to take on the goalkeeping responsibilities in the near future.
The report confirmed that Real Madrid's management does not see signing a new goalkeeper as a priority at this time, given the full confidence in Courtois, with club officials believing there is still ample time to choose the right replacement when the time comes for his departure.
