Newcastle's Stance on Selling Wissa
Tuesday 28-04-2026
Reports on Tuesday revealed that there is a tendency within Newcastle United to offer their Congolese international player Yoan Wissa for sale during the upcoming summer transfer window, less than a year after he joined the team.

According to "The Athletic," Newcastle's management is considering offloading the 29-year-old player, who joined last summer from Brentford in a deal worth £55 million.

Wissa did not succeed in delivering the expected level this season, as he participated in 24 matches across various competitions, totaling 834 minutes, during which he scored only 3 goals and provided one assist, a clear decline compared to his performance during his time with Brentford.

On the other hand, the newspaper indicated that the player does not wish to leave and prefers to continue with Newcastle, especially given his long-term contract with the club.

Wissa's transfer to Newcastle last summer was marked by tension with Brentford's management, as the club insisted on keeping him, which led the player to skip training before the deal was officially completed.

This comes amid Newcastle's recent decline in performance, having suffered several defeats in the Premier League against Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Arsenal.

Newcastle is in fourteenth place in the English Premier League standings with 42 points from 34 matches, making it difficult for them to compete for spots qualifying for European competitions next season.

The team is scheduled to play its next match against Brighton on Saturday, as part of the 35th round of the league.
