The Telegraph has highlighted the modest start of Newcastle's summer signings, considering that the club has not yet received the expected return on its massive investments, having spent around £262.9 million to sign eight players as part of a project to rebuild the team and launch a more ambitious new phase.

Newcastle have offloaded three of their standout stars, with Bruno Guimarães moving for £73 million, Sandro Tonali for £90 million, and Anthony Gordon for £67 million. They have reinvested a large portion of the proceeds to strengthen their squad with young talents, aiming to build a team capable of competing both domestically and in Europe in the coming years.

Despite the management's ambitions, Newcastle sit in 12th place in the Premier League amid a shaky start to the season, with increasing questions about the performance of the new arrivals, especially as coach Matthias Jaissle heavily relies on the players inherited from former manager Eddie Howe.

In goal, the Czech Lukáš Horníček has been performing at an acceptable level after becoming the first choice over Nick Pope, but he has not yet made decisive saves consistently, as the team has conceded 14 goals in eight Premier League matches. Meanwhile, the French Édouard Gauvain, who joined at the beginning of the summer, did not show reassuring signs in his only appearance against West Bromwich in the League Cup before suffering an injury, which has raised questions about the decision not to sign James Trafford, who has made a good start with Leeds United.

In the back line, the Bosnian Amar Dedic showed good attacking abilities, and his presence at right-back helped achieve greater balance compared to relying on Lewis Miley in that position. However, he made impactful individual errors and performed poorly during the loss to Everton, where they conceded three goals to one in the League Cup, leaving the future of the right-back position also dependent on Tino Livramento's readiness.

In midfield, the young Dutchman Sean Steer seems to be a candidate to become a standout player in the future, having shown clear quality in handling the ball with both feet. However, coach Yaisle has preferred to rely on the experience of Spanish player Nico González, who has delivered good performances against Tottenham and Crystal Palace, despite concerns about his ability to cope with rapid transitions and physical pressure in midfield.

In contrast, French young talent Alaji Bamba has not received enough opportunities to showcase his abilities, as reliance on him has decreased under the management of Yaïsle. This raises questions about his readiness to compete in the Premier League, especially since the transfer fee seems high compared to the output he has delivered so far.

In terms of attack, the Ivorian Bazumana Touré has not managed to establish himself as a key player, as he still struggles with some impulsiveness and a lack of experience, in addition to needing to develop physically, despite showing positive glimpses during his appearances as a substitute. The newspaper believes that the player needs time to adapt, but the value of the contract suggested his ability to provide an immediate impact.

Newcastle's most expensive summer signing, Belgian Matias Fernandez Bardo, has yet to deliver the expected level of performance, as he has neither scored nor assisted a goal in the Premier League. He has also been affected by not having a proper preparation period with Lille, before missing the last two matches due to injury.

Questions remain about the best position for Fernandes Bardou, as he possesses the qualities of a talented winger but tends to play as a central striker. However, he does not seem physically suited to occupy the sole striker role in Yaisle's system, which relies on direct balls and aerial duels.

The newspaper concluded its assessment by emphasizing that Newcastle need greater contributions from their new players if they want to translate their new project into tangible results, rather than merely relying on the previous elements of the team.
