European competition to sign Celta Vigo defender
Newcastle have entered the race to sign Celta Vigo defender Javi Rodríguez, amid interest from several clubs in acquiring the Spanish player's services in the upcoming period.
TEAMtalk reported that Newcastle, Everton, AFC Bournemouth, and Fulham have inquired about the player's situation in recent days of the summer transfer window, without making formal offers, while Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring him, impressed by their coach Luis Enrique.
The 23-year-old defender has signed a new contract with Celta Vigo until June 2030, which includes a release clause of €40 million, equivalent to £33.4 million.
Rodríguez has become a key player for his team, having played over 90 matches with the first team. He made his international debut with Spain last June and has scored three goals in 10 matches this season.
Newcastle see the player as a suitable option to strengthen their defense under Matthias Jaissle, especially his ability to play in both central defense and right-back positions, but they will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs, including AC Milan and Como.
