Upamecano: We Focus on Ourselves, Our Mindset Won't Change with Kompany's Absence
Monday 27-04-2026
French defender Dayot Upamecano, a player for Bayern Munich, spoke about the upcoming match against Paris Saint-Germain, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Parc des Princes, as part of the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the 2025/2026 season.

Upamecano said: "It is a very important match for us, and we are fully focused on our performance. We want to win here at the Parc des Princes, and we know that Paris Saint-Germain has great players and a distinguished team, but our focus is on ourselves to achieve victory."

He added, "I never considered joining Paris Saint-Germain. I am very happy at Bayern Munich, one of the best clubs in the world, and I feel comfortable here."

He continued: "Facing Ousmane Dembélé will be special; we are from the same city, and it's great to meet again in the Champions League semi-final. We've played against each other before, but tomorrow's match is different, and each of us will fight for our team."

He added: "Defending against Michael Olise in training is extremely difficult, as he is capable of doing everything with the ball and possesses great abilities. He always works hard and strives to improve, and I am happy to play with him in the club and the national team."

He continued: "Vincent Kompany added a lot to me, especially defensively, as he was one of the best defenders of his generation and a role model for me. I feel that I am developing under his leadership and I am happy to work with him."

Upamecano explained: "Kompany's absence from the sidelines won't change anything. We've worked with him all season and have absorbed his ideas, and our mentality will remain the same."

He concluded his statements by saying: "This match is completely different, as it is in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. We are not looking at the past, and our full focus is on the present. We want to win both matches, and we will do our utmost to achieve that. We know Paris Saint-Germain well; they have a complete team, not just Dembélé, but many outstanding players, and we will try to deal with their movements on the field."
