Flick's Stance on Renewing His Contract with Barcelona Until 2028
Friday 17-04-2026
Spanish press reports have revealed FC Barcelona's plan to secure the continued tenure of its German coach Hans Flick for a longer period, given the great harmony between the two parties since he took over in the summer of 2024, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."

According to the same source, Barcelona is looking to extend Flek's contract, which currently ends in 2027, for an additional season until 2028. There is also an intention to include an optional clause that allows for a further extension until 2029, contingent on achieving specific goals such as winning titles.

The report indicated that there is a verbal agreement between the club's management and the German coach regarding an extension, given the good relationship that he and his agent, Pini Zahavi, have with the club's president, Joan Laporta, his deputy, Rafa Yuste, and the sporting director, Deco.

The Spanish newspaper added that Flick does not prefer long-term contracts, especially since he considers Barcelona to be his final stop in his coaching career. Therefore, he is careful not to rush into signing any long-term agreements.

Flick requested to postpone the decision on the renewal file for the time being, as the team is busy competing for the league title, currently leading the standings with a comfortable margin over Real Madrid. He prefers to assess the situation at the end of the season.

The report also clarified that Flick does not reject the extension, but he wishes to be evaluated based on the team's results objectively, without being influenced by current circumstances or personal relationships within the club.

In a related context, the newspaper indicated that the Barcelona management respects the coach's position and prefers to wait until the end of the season before making a final decision, ensuring clarity for both parties.
