Rummenigge Reveals His Advice to Laporta About Flick
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the legend of the German club Bayern Munich, revealed the advice he gave to the current president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, when he signed coach Hans Flick, who impressed Allianz Arena fans between 2019 and 2021, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Sport'.
Rummenigge explained that he has a strong friendship with Laporta, saying: 'I have a great friendship with Joan, as he was my deputy in the European Club Association. Regarding Flick, I told him the most important thing is to be his friend. Hans needs trust, and it seems he applied that, as things are going excellently and Flick is doing a great job.'
He added that he warned Laporta before taking over the presidency of Barcelona for the second time about the club's sensitive financial situation, but he was the first supporter and will continue to lead the club no matter the challenges, confirming that the results proved his decision right, as good sports results returned and the financial situation gradually improved.
Regarding Bayern Munich, Rummenigge expressed his complete satisfaction with his current coach Vincent Kompany, explaining that Xabi Alonso rejected several offers from the club before moving to Real Madrid, saying: 'After a series of rejections, we decided to rely on Kompany, and it seems fate smiled on us. Great coaches like Lattek, Hitzfeld, Heynckes, and Guardiola have passed through the club, and he is adapting to this level. The coach is the most important employee, and Vini is also a blessing on a personal level.'
Rummenigge also praised Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez, describing him as worth his weight in gold, pointing out that he brought the royal club back to levels it only reached during the Bernabeu era, and celebrated the end of the Super League experience considering it a part of the past.
He added: 'Recently, I spoke with President Čeferin during the UEFA General Assembly in Brussels, and he assured me that everyone is happy with Real Madrid's return to the football family, and this is also beneficial for Real Madrid and Florentino, as conflicts benefit no one.'
Regarding the potential interest of Bayern Munich in signing one of Real Madrid's stars like Vinicius Junior, Rummenigge confirmed the difficulty of allowing him to leave, saying: 'He is priceless and plays in the perfect club, and I am not surprised that he is one of Florentino's favorite players. I learned that some Saudi clubs contacted him, but I don't think he will leave. Perez loves beauty in football and will do everything he can to keep him.'
