Pastore Praises Lamine Yamal: A Player Capable of Exceptional Things
Javier Pastore, the former Argentine player, confirmed in an interview with the Italian newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' that Lamine Yamal, the number 10 player for Barcelona, belongs to the category of players capable of doing exceptional things, each in their own style, alongside Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
Pastore explained that Yamal, since his appearance in the first ranks of the Catalan club at the age of fifteen, quickly managed to become one of the best players in the world by the age of eighteen, earning admiration from many professionals in football. Pastore said, 'Mbappe, Dembele, and Lamine Yamal belong to that category of players who can achieve extraordinary things, each in their own style.'
Pastore pointed out that Italian football currently lacks the boldness to give opportunities to young players. He said, 'Italian clubs have a great responsibility to provide more space for young players without waiting for them to reach the age of 23 or 24, otherwise it will be difficult for them to develop the strength and confidence needed to feel ready.'
Pastore added, 'There is a big difference in technical and personal quality between Italy twenty years ago and today, except for just three or four players.'
Pastore also emphasized that he prefers to glorify football as a team sport rather than focusing on individual stardom, noting that watching a team like Paris Saint-Germain play collectively is better than following a single player.
Pastore concluded his remarks by talking about his well-known nickname, saying, 'The nickname came from the street, in Argentina everyone has a nickname, I was always skinny, so my nickname became El Flaco, a nickname I love and it has stayed with me to this day.'
