Decisive Summit in Barcelona to Decide Flick's Future
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' revealed that the future of German coach Hans Flick with Barcelona will be decided in the coming period, through an anticipated meeting to be held in Barcelona within two weeks.
According to the newspaper, the coach's agent, Pini Zahavi, plans to travel to Barcelona to negotiate with the Catalan club's management about renewing Flick's contract, which currently extends until June 30, 2027.
The newspaper indicated that despite the statements of Joan Laporta, Barcelona's president, who confirmed via RAC1 radio that Flick would continue beyond the end of his current contract, the coach's entourage prefers to proceed cautiously, given that some details still need discussion before reaching a final agreement.
The newspaper quoted Flick's statements made before the recent match against Newcastle, where he said: 'This is not the right time, we have a very important match, everyone knows I am very happy here, but I have to talk to my family, there will be time to talk, not now,' in response to Laporta's statements about renewing his contract.
The newspaper confirmed that Flick, who is currently focused on achieving the best possible performance for his team and competing for the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League titles, has left the matter of his future in the hands of his agent, with full conviction of continuing at Barcelona, as he also stated: 'This will be my last club.'
Zahavi is expected to arrive in Barcelona from London, where he resides, to attend the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid, scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at the Spotify Camp Nou, and will use this visit to hold a negotiation session with the club's management.
The report noted that Flick, who usually prefers short-term contracts, might extend his current contract for an additional season, staying with Barcelona until June 2028, if an agreement is reached during the anticipated summit.
