Upcoming FIFA Visit to Spotify Camp Nou Stadium
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will visit the Spotify Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona next Monday as part of its inspection tour to verify the readiness of stadiums nominated to host the 2030 World Cup matches, which will be organized by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal.
The newspaper explained that this visit is part of FIFA's first tour to inspect the countries and stadiums nominated for the world championship in four years. Spotify Camp Nou will be the first stop on March 9, where the delegation will review the progress of the stadium's redevelopment. Last Tuesday, it hosted the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid, attended by 45,399 spectators, a record number for this season.
The newspaper indicated that the construction of the third stand is expected to be completed by mid-next season, bringing the total capacity to 105,000 spectators, while the installation of the roof is expected to be finished by the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028.
The newspaper added that Spotify Camp Nou will be among the stadiums nominated to host the final match, after the mayor of Barcelona officially confirmed the city's candidacy to the Spanish Football Federation. Both Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid and Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca are also aspiring to host the final.
The newspaper clarified that Monday will also include a FIFA visit to the Cornella stadium, while they will also head to Zaragoza, and on Wednesday to Madrid to inspect the Santiago Bernabeu and Metropolitano stadiums in case they are selected as venues for the 2030 World Cup.
The report added that the FIFA delegation will head to Portugal on Thursday, with the rest of the visits to the Spanish stadiums to follow. Malaga has withdrawn from the race, and the remaining Spanish candidate cities include Seville, Bilbao, San Sebastian, and La Coruña, with the possibility of adding Valencia and Vigo after next summer's World Cup. Meanwhile, Morocco has six candidate stadiums compared to three in Portugal.
