Torop's Statements Following Al Ahly's Draw with Zed in the League
Sunday 01-03-2026
The Danish coach Jes Thorup of Al Ahly spoke about his team's draw with ZED in the Egyptian League.

The match between Al Ahly and ZED, held on Saturday evening as part of the twentieth round of the Egyptian Premier League, ended in a 1-1 draw.

During the press conference following the match, Torop said: "It's crazy that we only got one point considering the statistics. We made 22 attempts on goal, but I believe we lost the two points in the first 20 minutes of the match because the opponent was better and controlled the second ball."

He added: "The goal served as a wake-up call and made us play the remainder of the match well. I sat with the performance analyst and saw the opportunities, and I'm surprised we didn't score more than one goal today."

He continued: "I commend the players for their performance in the last 70 minutes; they had high spirit and belief. I also thank the fans for supporting the team throughout the minutes."

Torop also said: "Ben Sharqi performed well on the right side. I know his preferred position is on the left side, but I wanted him to create opportunities from both sides, and this also gave Zizo a chance."

He added, "We conceded a goal from a one-on-one situation and from a distance of 6 meters. We hoped the goalkeeper would save these chances, but the goal came from a good transition by the opponent."

He concluded: "We should have defended better regardless of who made the mistake. I had to choose between Taher and El Shahat for the position because Zizo and Trezeguet are returning from injury. I won't comment on Taher's level, but he had an opportunity, and it was planned for him to play 55 minutes. Of course, there is a chance for Trezeguet, Zizo, and Hussein to participate to utilize their abilities to break the defensive block."
