Royal Army Responds to CAF Regarding Al Ahly Match Events
The management of the Royal Army sent an official response to the Confederation of African Football regarding the events that occurred during the team's match against Egypt's Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium, as part of the sixth round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The club's management clarified in its correspondence to the Disciplinary Committee that the report by the Libyan match observer, Jamal Ambe, did not reflect, according to their statement, all the events that occurred during the match.
The administration confirmed that video recordings document some Al-Ahly fans throwing bottles and projectiles at FAR Rabat players, noting that one of the team's players was injured as a result. It also mentioned that the Moroccan team's fans were pelted with projectiles in their designated stands.
She added that the team faced difficulties while leaving the locker room at halftime due to the heavy barrage of projectiles, which necessitated waiting for a security intervention to ensure the players' safe arrival on the field. She also noted that the security protection was not up to the required standard, according to her account.
The Royal Army's management also addressed the refereeing decisions, questioning why their players received four yellow cards despite what they considered to be normal play, while similar actions were reportedly not taken against some Al Ahly players in instances of contact documented in circulated video clips.
The club's management is awaiting the decision of the African Union's Disciplinary Committee, after reviewing the response and attached documents, to officially resolve the matter.
