The Spanish Federation's Stance on Imposing Sanctions on Barcelona Duo
The Spanish newspaper "AS" confirmed that the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation decided not to impose any sanctions on Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong and his teammate Fermín López following their reactions after the team's match against Real Sociedad on Sunday, which ended with Barcelona losing 2-1, further complicating the competition in La Liga.
De Jong had criticized referee Gil Manzano in his post-match comments, stating: "You can't even talk to the referee; he looks at me as if I am beneath him. At the end of the match, I asked him to pay attention to the added time, but he didn't add anything. This is shameful, and he showed me a yellow card."
As for Fermín, he expressed his stance on social media, saying: "They won't get the better of us," referring to his rejection of the controversial refereeing decisions during the match.
Barcelona had internally expressed dissatisfaction with the referee's performance, as well as with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), due to inconsistent evaluations of incidents.
On the other hand, Barcelona's criticism of VAR decisions was less severe, as the team usually supports this tool, but in this match, three goals and a penalty kick were disallowed for them, which sparked significant controversy among the players and coaching staff.
