Marc Bernal's Future with Barcelona Enters a Critical Phase
Wednesday 14-01-2026
The Spanish newspaper 'Sport' revealed that the future of Barcelona player Marc Bernal is nearing a decision after receiving numerous loan offers during the winter transfer window. The club and the player are scheduled to discuss his fate after the cup match against Racing, in which Bernal is expected to participate.

The newspaper confirmed that the club's sporting management does not mind Bernal getting more playing minutes to gain rhythm before the end of the season, given the plan to develop him as one of the main midfield players at Barcelona over the next decade. It clarified that if the club decides to let the player leave, the move will be a loan only, without a purchase option, to ensure his return at a better level next season.

Sport pointed out that coach Hans Flick trusts Bernal and is keen to keep him within the team, but understands the player's desire for more playing time, especially with other players in his position such as De Jong and Eric Garcia.

The newspaper also added that Girona club has strongly pushed in recent days to acquire the player, but Bernal has better offers from Spanish and European clubs, giving him wide options to choose the most suitable destination. The final decision will be made in agreement between the player and the club, with Hans Flick having the final say, to ensure no decision is postponed until the last days of the market.
