Ter Stegen's Future in His Hands Amid Girona's Interest
Saturday 10-01-2026
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" confirmed that the future of German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen depends on the decision he will make in the coming days, amid his reduced role as a key player at Barcelona and his desire to maintain his chances of participating in the World Cup with the German national team.

The newspaper explained that Ter Stegen has the option to stay with Barcelona, despite knowing that Juan Garcia has become the first-choice goalkeeper at the moment, especially after his recent performances. Alternatively, he can opt for a new experience by going on loan to Girona until the end of the season, a move that could provide him with regular playing time.

According to the newspaper, Ter Stegen returned to Saudi Arabia after undergoing medical examinations in Barcelona that ruled out a knee injury, despite experiencing pain during one of the training sessions. The option of a temporary departure remains strongly considered in search of playing time.

The newspaper pointed out that Barcelona will not place any obstacles in the way of the German goalkeeper's departure if he decides to leave on loan; rather, they will facilitate negotiations with Girona, who have shown interest in signing the player despite the complexity of their goalkeeper situation. The report also noted that Bernal could be another player likely to move to Girona on a loan deal.

The report confirmed that whether Stegen stays or leaves remains a purely personal decision, which will determine the shape of his near future both with Barcelona and beyond.
