Dual Pressure from Inter and Barcelona to Resolve Cancelo's Case
Monday 05-01-2026
Officials at Italian club Inter Milan have given Portuguese right-back João Cancelo of Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal a short deadline to finalize his decision on returning to the Nerazzurri during the current winter transfer window.

Inter Milan has set Tuesday as the final deadline to receive a definitive response from Cancelo regarding the offer, which includes a loan move until the end of the season, with an option to buy.

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed that Al-Hilal's management has given preliminary approval to loan the player for six months, as part of the ongoing understanding between the two clubs during the winter transfer window.

According to the financial details, Inter Milan will cover 3 million euros of Cancelo's salary, while Al Hilal will pay the remaining amount, which reaches 4.5 million euros during the loan period.

On the other hand, Al Hilal is also seeking to acquire the services of one of Inter Milan's defenders on a loan basis, with Italian Francesco Acerbi topping coach Simone Inzaghi's options, followed by Dutchman Stefan de Vrij.

The newspaper explained that the two deals will be completed separately from a legal standpoint, but they fall under a comprehensive agreement between the two clubs, without a direct link in the official contracts.

Despite this, João Cancelo's primary ambition remains to wear the FC Barcelona jersey, but the financial crisis currently facing the Catalan club complicates completing the transfer at this time.

Cancelo's decision to leave Al-Hilal comes after he was excluded from the domestic squad and limited to participating only in the AFC Champions League for the elite teams, as he desires to play as a starter to secure his place with the Portugal national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
