Barcelona Cancels Its Controversial Sponsorship with ZKP
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" reported that FC Barcelona has decided to terminate its contract with the global sponsor "Zero-Knowledge Proof," which was planned to run until 2028, just a month and a half after signing the agreement. The decision was based on the company's breach of contract terms, with no financial penalties imposed on the club.
The cancellation decision came after Andrew Tate, the former British fighter, was linked to the company and promoted the launch of a digital currency, which the club considered potentially misleading to fans and associating Barcelona with an external product that was not approved. The club emphasized that it has no responsibility for the issuance or management of this digital product.
The agreement was also criticized by the "Nosaltres" platform, led by Héctor Font, which described the company as lacking transparency and having a questionable reputation, noting that its headquarters are in Samoa, classified as a tax haven by the European Union.
Joana Barbani, a member of "Nosaltres," said: "This agreement represents a direct threat to the values that Barcelona declares it defends—equality, integrity, and respect. We cannot accept the club being associated with entities that threaten the club's image and principles."
