A Decisive Month Awaits Barcelona
Friday 26-12-2025
Barcelona players and the technical staff led by Hansie Flick are currently spending their days on a short break to recharge their energy, preparing for the challenging year 2026, a year that will start exceptionally for the Catalan club, with January packed with matches on various fronts.

Barcelona is expected to play up to 8 matches within just 25 days, spread across four different tournaments, if the team succeeds in reaching the Spanish Super Cup final. This comes at a time when the club's management is considering entering the transfer market to compensate for the absence of defender Andreas Christensen due to injury.

Barcelona will begin their 2026 journey with an away match against Espanyol on Saturday, January 3, at the Cornella El Prat stadium, as part of the 18th round of the Spanish League.

After the Catalonia derby, the team's focus will immediately shift to the Spanish Super Cup, where they will travel to Saudi Arabia to face Athletic Bilbao in the semifinal on Wednesday, January 7. If they qualify, Barcelona will play the final on Sunday, January 11 against the winner of the match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Whether crowned with the Super Cup or eliminated, Barcelona will have to quickly change their focus to the Copa del Rey, where the round of 16 matches will be held between January 13 and 15 against an as-yet-undetermined opponent, but it is certain that it will be an away game against a lower-division team.

After that, the team will return to La Liga action with a tough match against Real Sociedad at Anoeta on January 18, before entering a crucial challenge in the Champions League, aiming to finish the group stage among the top eight to qualify directly for the round of 16.

Barcelona will be guests of Slavia Prague on January 21, then will host Copenhagen in the final round on January 28. Between the two European matches, the team will host Real Oviedo in La Liga at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium, which may be ready by then to welcome around 62,000 spectators after receiving official authorization.

January will be a true test for Flick's team, balancing the pressure of matches, the ambition to compete for all titles, and making important decisions in the transfer market as well.
