The return of 33-year-old German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to play for Barcelona is approaching after four months since he underwent back surgery. The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" confirmed that the team captain continues to train positively with the group, showing no signs of the issue that forced him to have the operation on July 29.

During the team's training session on Thursday, there was a notable exception: coach Hans Flick did not call up any goalkeeper from the reserve team, as is usually the case, to prepare for the match against Betis. Only Juan Garcia, Szczesny, and Ter Stegen participated, with Ter Stegen working less intensely compared to his fellow goalkeepers, indicating progress in his physical condition and his approaching full return.

Nevertheless, Ter Stegen is not expected to receive medical clearance for Saturday's match against Betis. However, sources from the newspaper indicate that the goalkeeper may be ready to join the team's roster starting next week.

On the other hand, sporting director Deco pointed out that the current priority is Ter Stegen's full recovery before considering any potential transfer during the winter market. He added that the player will definitely be looking for playing opportunities in preparation for the World Cup next summer, with the possibility of being the team's third-choice goalkeeper until the end of the season.
