Sports Authorities Open Investigation Against Tebas for Breaching Barcelona's Confidentiality

Friday 21-11-2025
The Administrative Sports Court announced the opening of an official investigation against the president of the Spanish League Association, Javier Tebas. This follows a complaint filed by the Higher Sports Council on October 20, based on a report submitted by Miguel Galán, head of the Spanish Center for Sports Education and Training, against Tebas in August, according to the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo."

The complaint was filed due to what was considered Tebas committing five serious violations related to the breach of information confidentiality, including:

1- On April 2, the league refused to allow the sale of VIP boxes in Barcelona worth 100 million euros, which had been previously authorized in December, based on the club auditors' report.

2- This information was removed from the association's website following Barcelona's protest, although the club did not file an official complaint with the Higher Sports Council.

3- Meeting with Athletic Bilbao officials regarding the payment of the release clause for player Nico Williams, and the club's inquiry about Barcelona's financial situation.

4- Tebas's public statements in which he claimed that Barcelona is not complying with the financial fair play rules.

5- A letter sent by Tebas to the Higher Sports Council on March 28 regarding the case of player Dani Olmo was leaked, which was considered a cause of financial damage and reputational harm to the Catalan club.

As a result of this investigation, Tebas faces several possible outcomes, ranging from an official reprimand, to a suspension of his powers for a period of two months to a year, up to permanent removal from his position as president of the association.

The court is expected to issue the investigation results in the coming period to determine the legal and administrative responsibility of the association's president, amid close monitoring by Spanish clubs and fans.
