Laporta Comments on Xavi's Presence with Font and Election Plans in Barcelona
Barcelona club president Joan Laporta spoke about Xavi Hernandez's presence at the presentation of the "Barcelona We Want" project, launched by Victor Font, affirming that he was not surprised by this stance.
Laporta said: "I am not surprised that Xavi is there, and I believe he is free to do whatever he wants. It doesn't surprise me because in the past he had a relationship with Víctor Font."
He added regarding the Font election campaign: "All Barcelona fans can do whatever they see fit. We are running the club, not an election campaign. I believe the campaign has already started, but I prefer not to talk about what is happening now because if we do, we will be in a campaign."
Laporta continued regarding the timing of the elections and their impact on the team: "We hope there won't be a lot of election noise that affects the team as little as possible. We haven't decided on the election date yet, but it will be between March 15 and June 15. We will decide as soon as possible and hope it doesn't disrupt the team."
As the Catalan president explained regarding the guarantees for the future president: "There will be no guarantee; it was deterrent and discriminatory, but there will still be support signatures, which allows for the presence of candidates. The purpose of this measure is to facilitate participation."
He added: "When the statute is amended, it will be determined whether a minimum bail should be set or not. However, to assume the position this time, bail will not be required, which was previously implemented after the elections."
Laporta expressed his happiness about the team's return to Spotify Camp Nou against Athletic Bilbao: "It's a good match to return to the stadium, and we will be able to see two playing styles that are becoming less and less different, with high-level players. I know our players will be very motivated, starting with Flick."
He added: "It is a suitable match, and I would like to thank the management for meeting the challenge even though the work is not yet complete, as well as all the club staff, especially the Juan Sentiles department."
Regarding the criticisms about Yamal's absence from the national team, Laporta said: "We are used to that. Something happens with Lamine due to an injury, and the entire media comes out with major criticisms, but if it happens with another player, it is ignored."
Regarding the Messi statue project and future gifts for the stadium, Laporta explained: "We have not yet presented the proposal to Messi, nor have we received any response from him, but the proposal will be submitted at the appropriate time."
Laporta concluded his statements by talking about his experience in the Real Madrid box: "In that box, they are always confident of winning, and when the opposite happens, it feels enjoyable as a Barcelona fan. I encountered some sarcastic remarks, and if they say something, you respond as well. It’s bearable and even has a fun side. I have met five Real Madrid presidents; Florentino is respectful whether he wins or loses. There is institutional agreement."
