Flick: We are going through a tough situation, and we will come back better than before
Monday 20-10-2025
German coach Hans Flick held a press conference before his team's match against Olympiacos from Greece, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Montjuïc Stadium as part of the third round of the group stage in the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League.

Flick pointed out the challenges the team is facing after their recent loss to Paris Saint-Germain, emphasizing the importance of winning against Olympiacos to regain confidence ahead of the Clasico against Real Madrid.

Regarding Olympiacos, Flick said: "They have a good attack, and statistics indicate that they are one of the best attacking teams in Europe; just look at their match against Arsenal, where they had many opportunities. We need to be alert to these situations, as they have good players and a clear game plan, so we need to be cautious with them."

On Barcelona's current situation, he added: "We are currently going through a tough situation. I am happy with the win against Girona, and this has reflected positively on the morale in training. We talked about positioning and maintaining an appropriate distance from the opponent, and many technical aspects, but the team's morale needs to improve every day."

Regarding the injuries of Ferran Torres and Raphinha: "We hope Ferran can catch up with the Clasico, as well as Raphinha. When Ferran returned from the national team, the situation was a bit difficult, but we had to be cautious. Ferran's participation tomorrow would be a risk, and we will conduct further tests on Thursday to see what happens. We take care of all the players; we miss Raphinha because he was a very important player for us last season, and having him at his best level is important for the team."

On the potential new offside rule: "I have no idea. I respect Arsène Wenger, but we haven't talked recently. I don't know the purpose of this new rule, and when it is explained to me, I will be able to understand it and discuss my opinion."

On his feelings after disappointing results: "I no longer feel the tension as I did before. I remember when I was coaching Bayern Munich, I didn't smile even after winning 8-2 against Barcelona. Now I am more passionate; this club has changed me completely. I love Barcelona, I love the people here, and I do my best for the team."

On Marc Bernal: "We need to take care of him, and we are not convinced that he is fully ready to play these tough matches. We will look for matches for him to gradually return."

On the participation of Rooney and Marcus Rashford: "We can think of Rooney playing as an attacking midfielder or a striker, either on the bench or in the starting lineup. Marcus Rashford is a good option right now as a playmaker, and he can play as a winger and striker, adding a lot to the team."

On his red card against Girona: "Regarding the red card, there is a chance to talk about it after the Olympiacos match or on Saturday. There was nothing against the referee, but he made a different decision, and I have to accept it."

When asked if referees help Real Madrid, he said: "What can I say? (laughs) I have only been here for 16 months, and you have been here as a journalist for much longer and know more than I do. I don't want to say anything about this matter."
