De Roon: Life in England Made Me Give Up My Dream
Thursday 25-09-2025
Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon left Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017 after just one year with the English club.

The player had joined Middlesbrough from his current club Atalanta in 2016 and has now returned to the Italian team. He has now become a hero for them at the age of 34, having reached 400 matches.

The player spoke to 'L'Eco di Bergamo' and mentioned the time he spent at Middlesbrough. He explained that while he does not regret the move, he did not particularly enjoy the experience in England.

He stated: “Playing in the Premier League was a dream, and I wanted to test myself there. I have no regrets, but I did not enjoy it. The quality of life, the food, the climate. After Italy, it’s tough. I got used to Bergamo a lot.
