Barcelona's Upcoming Match at Montjuïc
Barcelona has announced that the team's next match against Real Sociedad, as part of the sixth round of La Liga, will be held at the Olympic Stadium of Luis Companis on Sunday, instead of Spotify Camp Nou as initially planned, according to the Spanish newspaper "Sport".
This match will be the first for the Catalan team at the Olympic Stadium, after the previous matches they played as the home team at the Johan Cruyff Stadium attached to the Joan Gamper Sports City in Sant Joan Despí. The team will also return to Montjuïc to face Paris Saint-Germain on October 1 in the second round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, the club is working on completing the procedures to obtain the initial occupancy license that allows accommodating 27,000 spectators in phase 1A, which includes the main stand and the southern goal, while phase 1B expands the capacity to 45,000 spectators to meet the minimum required by UEFA.
Elena Fort, Vice President of Barcelona and responsible for the Espai Barcelona project, confirmed that the club pays the Barcelona municipality an amount ranging from 300,000 to 900,000 euros for each match held at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc, according to the Spanish newspaper "Sport", noting that the average is about half a million euros depending on several unspecified factors.
This delay in returning to Spotify Camp Nou has a direct impact on the club's revenue, as the financial returns at the Johan Cruyff Stadium are minimal compared to Montjuïc.
