The Nigerira case has seen a new development following statements from Javier Enriquez, the son of José María Enriquez Nigerira, before Judge Alejandra Gil, where he confirmed that he was never aware of the payments his father received from FC Barcelona. According to Spanish newspaper 'Sport', Javier clarified that his work with the Catalan club was completely different from his father's relationship.

Javier stated: "I defended the truth that I know; the amounts my father received do not pertain to any work I did for Barcelona."

He added: "My company provided technical reports on referees for the first team and the reserve team between 2012 and 2018 through Mr. Contreras, for about 70,000 euros annually," emphasizing: "I had no idea that my father was sending invoices to Barcelona through his companies."

Javier indicated that he was surprised when he discovered the matter, saying: "I first learned about it in 2021 during a tax audit, then in 2022 through a call from Cadena Ser, I confirmed that the payments dated back to previous years; I was very angry at that time." He also criticized his father's actions, adding: "He always told me that he could not work with any club because he was the vice president of the referees' committee, so it was unreasonable to me."

Javier concluded his statements by referring to the difficulty of his relationship with his father: "I asked him for an explanation, but he evaded it and said it was none of my business. He was an authoritarian and aggressive person, and although I love him on a personal level, that does not change the truth."
