Refereeing Errors Shake La Liga.. Ferran's Goal Disallowed and Controversial Penalty Against Balde
Thursday 11-09-2025
The Technical Committee of Referees in Spain, through its spokesperson Marta Freas, revealed details of its analysis of several controversial refereeing cases during the first three rounds of the Spanish league, including two prominent cases involving FC Barcelona.

The first case concerns Ferran Torres's goal against Mallorca in the first round, where the player scored after Mallorca defender Raio fell due to a head injury, without referee Munuera Montero stopping the play.

Marta Freas confirmed that the referee should have stopped the match immediately in accordance with the concussion protocol, which prioritizes player safety above all.

She pointed out that continuing play in such a situation is a violation of the protocol, and the goal should have been disallowed; as a result, the referee was excluded from assignments in the third round.

The second case occurred in the match between Barcelona and Levante in the second round, where referee Hernandez Hernandez awarded a penalty after a handball by Alejandro Balde following a review of the video technology.

The report clarified that Balde's arm moved to an unnatural position during the attacker’s shot, which expanded the defensive coverage area and impeded the ball heading towards the goal, justifying the decision to award the penalty.

These cases sparked comparisons with a similar situation in another match, where no penalty was awarded to Real Madrid despite a handball by Tchouameni, raising questions about double standards in some refereeing decisions.
