Officially.. Johan Cruyff Hosts the Match Between Barcelona and Valencia
FC Barcelona has officially announced that its match against Valencia, part of the fourth round of La Liga, scheduled for Sunday, September 14, will take place at Johan Cruyff Stadium instead of Spotify Camp Nou.
The club clarified in its statement that the decision came after failing to obtain permission from the Barcelona municipality to return to Camp Nou on time, despite recent attempts to reopen it with a limited capacity of 27,000 spectators.
Johan Cruyff Stadium, which has a capacity of only 6,000 seats, will be the temporary solution after excluding the option of Montjuïc Stadium due to the unpreparedness of its pitch following the scheduled concert on September 12.
The club also confirmed that La Liga conducted an inspection of the stadium last week and requested technical preparations at Johan Cruyff Stadium, such as the installation of VAR cameras and activation of the fiber optic system for high-quality match broadcasts, which the Barcelona management has been working to complete urgently.
It is worth noting that Barcelona had planned to return to Camp Nou after the first phase of development works, but the delay in obtaining permits prevented that.
