Spanish newspaper 'Sport' revealed that Barcelona's management is prioritizing Spanish star Ferran Torres as their top choice to succeed Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, as his contract approaches its end in the summer of 2026.

Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona in July 2022 from Bayern Munich, is entering his fourth and final season with the Catalan team. Although there is a possibility of him staying for an additional season, the general direction within the club indicates readiness for a post-Lewandowski phase, especially considering his advancing age.

Despite Barcelona being linked with several notable names such as Isak, Gyokeres, Julian Alvarez, and Haaland, the club's financial situation does not currently allow for consideration of these transfers. For this reason, sporting director Deco has decided to rely on available options within the team.

According to the newspaper, Ferran Torres is Deco's first choice to replace Lewandowski, as the player has shown significant development in the center forward position, successfully scoring two goals in the first three rounds of La Liga this season, taking advantage of Lewandowski's absence due to injury.

The newspaper confirms that this current season will serve as a crucial test for Torres to prove his ability to lead Barcelona's attack in the future, especially since he enjoys the confidence of both Deco and coach Hans Flick. If he continues to deliver the required performance, he may be established as the primary striker next season without the need to turn to the market.
