The Spanish club Barcelona announced in an official statement that it has reached an agreement with midfielder Oriol Romeu to mutually terminate his contract, as part of the transfer market conditions.

The Catalan club thanked Romeu for his professionalism and commitment throughout his time with the team, wishing him success in his future career.

The club stated: "Oriol Romeu returned to FC Barcelona in the 23/24 season, coming from Girona, and in this way, the midfielder donned the blaugrana shirt again after leaving La Masia in the 2010/2011 season."

It added: "Romeu joined the Barcelona training center in 2004, where he progressed through the ranks until he made his first-team debut under Pep Guardiola."

It concluded: "Romeu had an outstanding season in Girona 2022/2023, which qualified him to return to Barcelona, where he started the season strongly, participating as a starter in the early matches of the 2023/2024 season, and delivered a great performance as a pivot under the guidance of Xavi Hernandez. However, he lost his spark, partly due to a knee injury. In total, he played 37 matches, including 17 as a starter, with a total of 1435 minutes with Barcelona, which served as a prelude to his return to Girona on loan, where he participated in 31 matches, including 22 as a starter.
