Flick Studies Changes in Barcelona's Defense to Improve Defensive Balance
Friday 29-08-2025
German coach Hans Flick is contemplating changes to Barcelona's defense in the upcoming rounds of La Liga, despite the team's strong start with two consecutive victories, the most recent being a 3-2 win against Levante, where the team conceded two goals that raised some doubts about the current defensive structure.

Flick relied on the same defensive quartet in the first two rounds, with Eric Garcia playing as a right-back ahead of Jules Koundé, alongside the duo of Araujo and Koubarsi in central defense, and Balde on the left side. However, reports indicate that Koubarsi feels more comfortable when playing as a right center-back, prompting Flick to consider repositioning him.

Among the proposed scenarios is also moving Araujo to the left side, or using Eric Garcia in central defense and reverting Koundé to the right-back position. Flick is also considering the option of involving Gerard Martin as a left center-back if he is officially registered, or relying on Andreas Christensen in that position.

The coach has several training sessions left before facing Rayo Vallecano, which may determine his decision regarding the final shape of the defense, with the aim of enhancing balance and avoiding unnecessary goals in the upcoming matches.
