Barcelona Considers Johan Cruyff Stadium for Valencia Match
Wednesday 27-08-2025
FC Barcelona is working on finding a quick solution to host its first home match of the season against Valencia, scheduled for September 13 or 14, due to the incomplete readiness of Spotify Camp Nou.

Although the club has received a certificate of completion for the first phase of the renovation works, it still needs the approval of the Barcelona municipality to officially activate the stadium, which has led it to consider an alternative option represented by Johan Cruyff Stadium.

While the Johan Cruyff Stadium option has become the most likely, there are organizational obstacles preventing its immediate adoption, the most notable of which is the crowd capacity, as La Liga requires a minimum capacity of 15,000 spectators for first division matches, while the stadium's capacity does not exceed 6,000 spectators.

Barcelona is faced with two options: to request a temporary exemption from La Liga or to install temporary stands to raise the capacity to the required level.

Another obstacle is that the stadium does not have a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, which needs to be installed before holding any official match.

In a move reflecting Barcelona's seriousness about adopting this option, La Liga representatives visited Johan Cruyff Stadium this morning to inspect its facilities, while the club awaits an official response in the coming days.

Reports indicate that the Barcelona municipality has conditioned the club to address the damages caused by recent rains before issuing a temporary use permit for Camp Nou, leaving Barcelona with a deadline until early next week to resolve the situation.
