1:1 Rule Threatens Olmo's Position at Barcelona

1:1 Rule Threatens Olmo's Position at Barcelona

Monday 25-08-2025
Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that FC Barcelona continues its efforts to comply with the 1:1 rule imposed by La Liga, a necessary step to register new players during the summer transfer window, such as Juan Garcia as a replacement for the injured Ter Stegen, and Rashford. However, the importance of reaching this rule extends beyond new signings and encompasses the future of Dani Olmo with the team.

According to the newspaper, Barcelona currently does not need to re-register Dani Olmo, as the decision of the Higher Sports Council issued on April 3 allows him to participate with the team. However, this situation may change starting September 1, coinciding with the resumption of legal proceedings in Spain and the National Court's consideration of the appeal filed by La Liga against this decision.

The possibilities depend on the content of the ruling. If a decision is issued in favor of Barcelona, Olmo will remain registered thanks to the current precautionary measure. However, if La Liga's position is upheld, the club may be forced to cancel the player's registration immediately, making him ineligible to participate unless the club can reach the 1:1 rule before the end of the transfer window to re-register him.

The worst-case scenario is if the ruling is issued after September 1, as it would be impossible to re-register Olmo. In this case, he would not be able to play with the team until the winter transfer window, putting both the club and the player in a complicated position that requires an urgent solution before the official deadline.
