Barcelona Faces Financial Crisis Affecting New Player Registrations

Friday 22-08-2025
Just ten days before the closure of the summer transfer market, FC Barcelona is facing a severe financial crisis that threatens its ability to register new players, amid ongoing difficulties in activating the 1:1 rule related to financial fair play regulations in La Liga, according to Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

According to 'Mundo Deportivo', La Liga has not yet given the green light to the Catalan club due to the financial auditing company's disapproval of the sale of rights to exploit 475 VIP seats at Spotify Camp Nou, a deal that was supposed to generate an income of 100 million euros.

The newspaper clarified that the Qatari company 'Fortia' paid 30 million euros last December, while the Emirati company 'New Era' has only paid 28 million euros out of a total of 70 million, leaving an outstanding amount of 42 million euros expected to be paid in two installments, the first in September and the second at the beginning of 2026.

This financial impasse keeps the club outside the regulatory limits, preventing it from registering new players or moving in the market as needed. For his part, German coach Hans Flick expressed hope for a resolution to the crisis, confirming during the press conference before the Levante match that he does not wish to part with any player from his squad.
