Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed that FC Barcelona is considering extending the contract of their Danish defender Andreas Christensen for another year, after he became a key player in coach Hans Flick's plans following the departure of Inigo Martinez.

The newspaper clarified that Barcelona had placed Christensen in the summer transfer market due to the abundance of players in the defense line, but Martinez's departure changed the situation, and the player is now close to getting a lot of playing minutes in the new season, especially since his current contract expires in the summer of 2026.

Christensen rejected offers from Saudi and English clubs this summer, preferring to stay at Barcelona, and he regularly participated in the preparation period, delivering good performances. According to the same source, the Catalan club may start renewal negotiations after the transfer market closes, to ensure he does not leave for free or to keep him for the future if he maintains his level.

The Danish defender, who can play as a center-back or a defensive midfielder, is expected to be one of the standout players this season due to his experience and ability to play the ball out from the back, along with his commitment and discipline on and off the field.
