Crisis in Barcelona Due to Ter Stegen's Refusal to Sign Medical Report
Tuesday 05-08-2025
Marc-André ter Stegen, the goalkeeper for Barcelona, has caused a new crisis for the Catalan club after refusing to sign a medical report regarding his injury, which complicates the club's plans to temporarily replace him during his absence.

Ter Stegen underwent surgery that will keep him off the field for a period of up to 4 or 5 months, which allows the club, according to La Liga regulations, to temporarily remove him from their roster and register a replacement goalkeeper, given the financial constraints imposed on Barcelona due to financial fair play rules.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," the German goalkeeper refused to sign a form that would allow the club to send the injury report to the medical committee of La Liga, a necessary procedure because players' medical data is considered confidential and cannot be shared without the player's written consent.

Barcelona believes that Ter Stegen's refusal harms the team's interests both sportingly and financially, and it also affects plans to rely on the newly signed goalkeeper Juan Garcia to compensate for the absence of the first-choice keeper.

While the club acknowledges the player's right to refuse to share his medical data, the management believes that this stance violates some obligations stated in his contract, which could open the door for legal or disciplinary actions against him.

It is worth noting that recent media reports have indicated Barcelona's intention to sell Ter Stegen, amid speculation about the possibility of stripping him of the captaincy due to his recent stances and statements.
