Crystal Palace's Participation in the Conference League Instead of the Europa League
The first chamber of the financial control body for clubs affiliated with UEFA issued its final decision regarding the participation crisis of the English club Crystal Palace and the French club Olympique Lyon in next season's competitions.
The decision stated that Olympique Lyon will participate in the Europa League for the 2025/2026 season, following the cancellation of its relegation from Ligue 1, which kept the team in European competitions.
In contrast, UEFA rejected Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League due to John Textor's dual ownership of both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyon, which violates UEFA rules, and decided to transfer Crystal Palace's participation to the UEFA Conference League instead of the Europa League.
UEFA indicated that the English club has the right to appeal this decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, according to articles 62 and 63 of UEFA's statutes.
Nottingham Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, is expected to take Crystal Palace's place in the Europa League.
