Spanish media reports indicate that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is close to renewing his contract with Barcelona until 2029, following a nearly final agreement between the player and the club's management.

The newspaper "Sport" mentioned that the new contract includes adjustments in the financial structure, as De Jong agreed to defer some overdue payments, granting the club flexibility in the salary cap that could be used to complete significant deals such as signing Nico Williams.

The negotiations, described as "complex," were affected by the accumulation of previous dues; however, De Jong personally intervened to expedite matters after communication from his agents was frozen. An official announcement regarding the renewal is expected as soon as his relationship with his current agent ends.
