Ribeiro: Al Ahly Will Struggle for Qualification
Sunday 22-06-2025
Spanish coach José Ribeiro confirmed that his team will fight in the upcoming match against Portuguese Porto to qualify for the next round.

Al Ahly will meet Porto early next Tuesday in the third and final round of the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Ribeiro said at the press conference: "We are looking forward to kick-off in tomorrow's match against Porto, after the disappointment a few days ago, focus is the required reaction. Our team is still strong, and we hope tomorrow will be good."

He added: "It is not over; we will struggle until the end of the group stage to qualify for the next round. This is Al Ahly's history, this is our identity, and that is why we traveled, and we will fight in the match to achieve this."

He continued: "I don't think there is a single reason that led to not achieving a positive result in the two matches. We imposed our style in the first half against Inter Miami, and we lost it in the second half, while against Palmeiras it was different; we had control most of the time."

He increased: "The truth is we were the better side in the first half in both matches, and we couldn't impose control in the second half. The time was too short to understand why, but we will work on it, and I am happy with the performance of the players. We know the positives in both matches, and we will work to achieve victory against Porto. As I said at the beginning, we came to America to achieve positive results, and tomorrow we will be a strong Al Ahly again."

He clarified: "For me, every player present is a key player, and that is why we traveled with 28 players. Unfortunately, Imam Ashour was injured, so we are not thinking about the absentees, but only about the available players. We are saddened by the injuries and absences, and we will deal with these obstacles to continue our journey in the tournament."

He pointed out: "I tell the players the truth, which is that through the matches, very good periods emerged, and we tried to gain confidence. There are many positives, of course, it is difficult to talk about positives when we do not win, because we should be the ones winning and playing for victory, but we tell them the truth honestly."

He concluded: "The second point is that I have been here for two weeks, to get to know the players' style and culture. They are not happy with the last result, and they know well their mission and the extent of the responsibility that lies on them at Al Ahly."
