Ribeiro Comments on Al Ahly's Draw Against Inter Miami
José Ribeiro, Al Ahly's coach, commented on his team's draw against Inter Miami in the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The match between Al Ahly and Inter Miami, held early Sunday morning in the first round of the Club World Cup, ended in a goalless draw 0-0.
Al Ahly wasted several chances in the first half, the most notable being a penalty that Mahmoud Trezeguet failed to convert.
Ribeiro said after the match in media statements: "There were some mistakes in the transitions with the ball, and we had some opportunities that we couldn't convert into goals, and our success in those would have changed the dynamics of the match."
The Al Ahly coach added: "Perhaps we were slower than we should be, there were some errors in passing the ball, but at the same time, there are some positives that we took away overall."
When asked about Al Ahly's upcoming match against Palmeiras next Thursday in the second round of the group stage, Ribeiro explained: "We have finished the first match, and we need to correct some situations as much as possible and analyze what happened today to avoid the mistakes we made tonight."
The former coach of South Africa's Orlando Pirates concluded his remarks by saying: "I had a feeling of surprise. This is my first official match with Al Ahly, and of course, playing here is different from playing in Egypt. I am very happy to be here representing the Club of the Century in Africa, and we hope to have a better opportunity in the match against Palmeiras."
